Alexa CO #1

My first classroom observation was a really informative and fun experience. The class I went to was a 2A grammar class, and they were learning about the present continuous tense. At the beginning of the class, I noticed that the teacher was doing a lot of gestures to go along with her words. She also had the students practice in pairs. I think what I liked most about the class observation was getting to see how much interaction there was in the classroom. The class did a speaking activity, then a writing activity, and then another speaking activity. Each activity was very engaging, unique, and fun for the students. The teacher used different tools like visual aids and videos. I absolutely loved the writing activity because the students were put into pairs, were given a picture, and had to write sentences - using the present continuous tense - based on what they saw in the picture. It brought in a lot of American culture and context because there were things in the pictures that some students did not know. Furthermore, I loved that the teacher effectively mixed the type of instruction in the class. She had structure, but she also had opportunities for free practice. Overall, I'm really glad I got to observe this class, and it gave me some great ideas to use in my future classroom.
