Ismael CO#3

Today I sat in on Victoria Davis group 4 grammar class again. As she did last time she started the class by giving the agenda for the day and reviewing the material from the last class. Todays subject was phrasal verbs both separable and inseparable. Throughout the class she repeated the pattern of teach, example, and practice over and over again. All the while correcting students and encouraging them. What I particularly noted today was that she asked individuals to answer questions or speak instead of asking for volunteers. Like in many classes there is always one student who can answer many of the questions so to account for this Ms. Davis would alter the question or ask for another example and ask another student. She made sure to have each student answer a question or give an example. After some practice she split the students into groups to write a dialogue together using the phrasal verbs they had been practicing. She was sure to chose the groups to balance skill levels but also to pair students together who haven't worked together yet. While they were talking she came and spoke to me about teaching and developing lesson plans. We also talked about how important it is to have a structured plan from which to improvise. She told me each class dynamic is different so each one requires a slightly different or altered plan to meet the same result. She also showed me her binder that she uses to teach the class to show me some of the lesson plans and structure she had built. It was extremely helpful to see her professional level of organization and structure of her class so I have an idea how to build my own teaching repertoire.
