CO #1

Date/Time: 5/16/2017 9:00AM-9:50AM

Topic/Skill: 1A Grammar – simple past tense, irregular past tense

Teacher Presentation: Victoria Golen called attendance and welcomed everyone to class. Myself and the other visitor from the ESL FSU program introduced ourselves. Victoria gave clear instruction and checked in with the students to make sure they understood instructions and words that were being used.

Classroom Management: Class was quite boisterous. They were excited about the lesson and all having a good time working with each other. She set time limits on the activities in order to keep people on track.

Materials: Handouts, white board, books, overhead projector

Student Participation: Worked with a partner to practice past tense irregular verbs on the vocabulary list to do a drill. Students broke into two teams and had to compete against each other to conjugate irregular verbs on the board. There was a little extra helping. It was super funny and engaging to watch. Students had to use some vocabulary to tell a story that happened. She let them work to prepare and then they will tell their stories to their partners. She modeled by telling one of her own embarrassing stories. The students had to tell each other their stories and switch partners. A couple of really good stories got shared with the class.

Feedback Provided: Victoria provided positive feedback when the students were doing well and made corrections when they had difficulties. She was also good at fielding questions and clarifying things when issues arose. She circulated the room a lot to make sure that everyone was on track and not having issues. She also clarified a beautiful mistake that someone made.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: Keeping the students engaged by keeping things fun and light and encouraging lots of participation.
