Alexandra TS #3

On Wednesday, May 24, 2017, from 11:55am to 12:55pm, I met with my adult tutee, Natalia, at the CIES.  We spent the time working on Natalia’s speaking and listening skills.  I asked her about her weekend.  She went to Miami, so she described her experience to me.  One amusing part was when she was trying to describe a box that a person goes in.  She saw one being used for a commercial on Miami Beach.  It took me about ten minutes to realize she meant a coffin!  I learned that I must think more literally when I hear a description from a new English speaker because some vocabulary is just completely different.  It was a funny and useful experience for us both.  Then, she asked me about my piano music, and we talked about Russian music.  She described several instruments to me that I had never heard of.  We looked up images of the instruments, and I tried to think of English equivalents.  In addition to Natalia getting to practice descriptions, pronunciation, and sentence structure, I learned a lot about Russian music.  It was a very fun session!
