Valerie CP #2

Last Monday, Soumaya and I went to get our nails done. She had commented on liking the color of my nails during our first meeting, so I thought it'd be a nice time to get them done together! I've been going to the same guy, Brandon, at the same nail shop for over a year now, so I was sure to call and make an appointment and let him know Soumaya didn't speak very much English, so to be patient with her. As Brandon is from Vietnam and learned English as a second language too, he was great with Soumaya.

She used to get her nails done a lot in Burkina Faso, but of course, the different styles had different names. We went through all the different services you could have, such as a manicure, pedicure, gel polish, and acrylic polish. Brandon and Soumaya talked about their travels and once we were finished, Soumaya paid for her own manicure with the correct amount of money.

On the way home, I told Soumaya about my friend's baby shower I'd be attending this weekend. She told me they have a similar type of celebration for new babies in Burkina Faso! Overall, we had a wonderful time and I believe Soumaya learned a great deal about interacting with people in America, especially in a nail salon. We plan on heading to the mall this weekend! Stay tuned :)
