Alexandra CP #3
On
Thursday, May 25, 2017, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, we went with several of the
conversation partners to Lake Ella for Food Truck Thursday. My friends and I
decided that this would be a great local event for our international
friends. Everyone got food, and we sat
and talked while live music played. It
was interesting to talk with a girl from Latin America and two boys from the
Middle East side-by-side. I learned that
in the Middle East people do not keep dogs as pets. For this reason, the boys were scared of all
the dogs we saw. We discussed differences
in houses, families, marriages, and greetings among each of our regions. In contrast to the U.S., our international
friends all said that extended families often share one house for most of their
lives. Like in the U.S., Latin American
cultures often have parties in their houses.
In the Middle East events are segregated between men and women. Latin Americans usually embrace or exchange
kisses on their cheeks; Middle Easterners sometimes embrace members of the same
sex. However, Americans tended to be
more reserved in greetings. Overall, it
was a very fun evening!
