Alexa CP #2

Date/Time: May 19, 4:00-5:15
Location: In the car / Target
Topic discussed: Stories about guys, favorite foods, fashion, differences between Japan and America
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: Some differences between Japan and America (weather, traffic, etc)

Today, I met with Nanami for the second time. She expressed a desire to go to Target so it was a good opportunity to show her a popular store in America. It was very interesting seeing some of the things she was buying. I think one thing that I noticed from this experience is the linguistic differences when people say 'yes' and 'no.' There would be times where I would ask a question, and Nanami would use the opposite word which in English conflicted with the rest of her statement. I've also been learning more about how the culture in Japan is different. I know Nanami has mentioned that people in Japan are more reserved and to themselves, and I can see that when I talk to her. There are times where I am just talking and she is listening. However, it is cool to see her warm up to me and talk during moments where it is quiet.

It was fun hearing about how Japan is different from America. One thing that I thought was interesting was that Nanami was telling me about how in Tokyo people don't really use cars. Our next conversation meeting will be over lunch, and she again expressed her desire to have American food. I am excited for our next meet up.
