Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: different basketball games for kids
Today, I met with my conversation partner for the first time. I actually met him while I was observing classes, but we didn't get a chance to talk until today. His name is Tingwei, and he's from Taiwan. He's 23 and already finished undergrad in Taiwan with a degree in finance, and he said he really loves finance. I asked him if he likes studying English, and he said not so much. He said he really enjoys finance though. I really enjoyed talking to him because he's really easygoing. He seems to be ready to joke around, and I really hope he gets the chance to do more around Tallahassee so that he won't be so bored. He said he loves playing basketball, but he doesn't play competitively. He just plays for fun. He definitely knows what he wants to say, and I'd say that he has a pretty high speaking level. However, it takes him some time to get his thoughts out. His pronunciation is great though. I don't have any issues understanding him, and he said that the way I speak is just fine. Today, we were just getting to know a little more background information about each other like hobbies and family, but we both really enjoyed it. He didn't understand what I meant when I used common conversational English, but I was able to explain it to him. I'm excited to get to meet with him again next week.
