Date/Time: May 20, 2017 - 10:30 a.m

Location: Tutee's Home

Topic/Skill: Reading Comprehension

Feedback Provided to Tutee: PJ brought one of his favorite books for us to read. For this tutoring session, PJ and I were working on his reading comprehension. As we read along, I asked him questions about what was happening in the stories, but I also asked him why he thought certain things were happening. I specifically asked him questions on his opinion because I wanted him to become more comfortable expressing his ideas. I think this could help him to think differently and ask more questions, even when he is reading on his own.

Lesson(s) about Tutoring and/or the Tutee You Learned: I learned in this session the types of things that PJ likes to read about. What I found most interesting is that, PJ really enjoys reading the I Survived book series. I find this interesting because all of these books are based on true events and contain some sort of historical fact. I didn't expect this type of reading material to interest kids his age.
