Topic/Skill: Grammar Group 3A Felicia Clapetta
This morning I observed Felicia’s group 3 grammar class.
Felicia started by having casual conversations with some of the students. She
then projected the agenda for the day on the board and proceeded to give them a
bell ringer, which reminded me a lot of my middle school and high school classes.
They talked about what they had learned the previous day (past continuous) and
she asked them to explain to her what it was and to give examples of it. After the bell ringer they began a group activity from their book which was an interrogation. The students go into groups of four and had to pick one person to be the cop (that person then left the room) and a person to be the thief. Once the cop left the room the group decided who would be the thief and they had to come up with the story they would say during their interrogation about what they were doing the day before (using past continuous). While
they were talking, she would correct any grammatical mistakes and explain it to
them. I enjoyed the activity and I could tell everyone else was enjoying it too. It was funny and interesting to see what crazy stories they came up with. After they finished reviewing what they had previously learned she had them read a
short story which presented the topic of their lesson for the day, present
perfect continuous. Once they were done reading she asked them what the story
was about to check for their comprehension and she then explained what the present
perfect continuous was. Once the lesson was done she started engaging in conversation
with the students using the present perfect continuous tense and when they
would make mistakes or get confused she would help them understand. I enjoyed
how involved she was with the class and how she integrated the lesson into
casual conversation.
