Alexandra TS #1

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, from 11:55pm to 12:55pm, I met with my adult tutee Natalia at the CIES.  We spent our first meeting getting to know one another.  This was my way of gaging her English and figuring out how I could best help her in our sessions.  Natalia told me she would like to work on her speaking and listening skills.  After our meeting I gained a good idea of her abilities and am now able to plan accordingly.

When I first met Natalia, I introduced myself and began talking in my quick, natural pace.  However, when she began to respond, I could tell that I needed to speak slower and more clearly in order to best work with Natalia.  She is in the CIES Level 1, so there were many times that I needed to rephrase what I wanted to say to help her understand.  I learned that Natalia is from Ukraine.  Her husband teaches chemistry at FSU, and she has two children.  She plays the drums and loves music like me.  She seems kind, appreciate, and eager to learn.  While our conversation was challenging, I am excited to work with Natalia.
