I met with my child tutee, Elia, for the first time this week. Elia is 11 and in 6th grade. We mostly talked about how much English he knew, what his best and worst subjects were, and what he wanted me to help him with. He was the oldest of his brothers so he knew a lot more English than the others but I could tell he couldn't understand me at points. I had him read several inserts of different leveled books to see how much he comprehended. He didn't understand as much when reading than he did with listening.
