So last Saturday I met with my tutti Mubarak at the Starbucks near CIES. Mubarak told me he is in level 3 in almost every level except one which was level 4. He wasn't clear if it was speaking or writing but judging by his English I would say it was writing. I could be wrong though. For this first session we mostly discussed what he wants help with and I reviewed a paragraph he had written for an essay he was trying to complete. I had a lot of trouble drawing the line between helping him and doing it for him, however I did my best to explain to him what was wrong and how to fix it. I also recommended some ways to improve his English such as reading different things. I told him for future sessions he should compile a list of words and phrases he was unfamiliar with and anything else he wanted help with to bring to each session so we would have something to do. He expressed to me he wanted help with his grammar mostly but also needed help in all of the areas. The rest of the session we spent going over some English idioms and what they mean and how to use them.
