Barbara CP#3

Our conversation today took place in the Fine Arts Museum where we viewed an exhibition called Art of the Educator.  It featured the works artwork of retired and current K-12 educators from Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson and Wakulla counties.  The artwork was very diverse and featured paintings, quilts and ceramic sculptures.  We stopped at each display, read about it and discussed the medium with which it was made as well as the subject of the painting.  There was a lot to see and to talk about.  Natalia had said that she really liked art, and as we went through the gallery, she made interesting comments on how each one represented its subject matter.  One of the sculptures we both liked was called “Bird Goddess: A Paleolithic Memory (from the stick figure series); mixed media including found tree limbs.”  Standing over 6 feet tall, it was a very colorful representation.  Walking through the gallery generated a lot of conversation on many levels.  Natalia is a beginning speaker although she can understand a lot particularly in context.  As we read about each painting we also discussed what we thought the artist was trying to convey.  Natalia was particularly interested in the type of materials – acrylic, oil, ceramic or clay – that was used in the works.  Her interest slowed me down and I enjoyed each one very much.
