On Wednesday,
May 24, 2017, from 4:30pm to 5:15pm, I met with my child tutee, Pais, for the
first time at his house. Colleen,
Annalise, and I went together to meet our tutee, and Daniel met us at the house
to introduce us to the kids. The five children
were all precious, and I am excited to work with them. They know hardly any English. My child tutee is in the fourth grade, and he
is ten years old. When I asked him
questions, he could only sometimes answer me.
I took this as a sign that he really is a beginner English learner. I asked him if he knew the alphabet. He said no, so we practiced writing and
saying the alphabet together. While he
did know most of the letters, he did not know the alphabet order. He also sometimes wrote the letters
wrong. He was willing to listen to me
and try the letters again when I asked.
In our sessions, I plan to work with him on learning all the letters of
the alphabet correctly. Next time, we
may try to do a group game, so we can work with all the kids.
