I met with Gabriela on June 13th,
2017 at 6:30 at Strozier Library. We used this session to continue working on
minimal pairs. I had her repeat the three pairs she had trouble with again then
I wrote down a sentence using each word. I would read the sentence and ask her
which word she thought I had used. She then wrote some sentences down herself
and would read them to me and I would have to tell her what word she was using.
I think this was an extremely useful practice exercise because by the end it
was a lot easier for her to understand. After we finished going over the
minimal pairs I told her how I had a similar problem in Portuguese with being
able to hear the difference between avó (grandmother) and avô (grandfather). We
spent around 10 minutes doing the same exercises with these two words and I was
really able to hear a difference by the end.
