As usual we met at Starbucks. Today was the last session of helping her with her essay. For her newest draft I checked for general or basic grammar mistakes. Generally it was very good, partially because the sentences were quite simple, but also because she had put a great deal of effort into the essay. I made sure the tell her I couldn't check it directly but I could tell her what to practice. Her biggest issue was her use or absence of articles. I explained that to her and suggested when she practices at home to practice writing sentences using them to help her remember when and how to use them. I think in some respects she is still translating English to Spanish and Spanish to English to write and express herself. I told her that maybe that was the root of her problem because Spanish uses their version of the article somewhat differently.
