We met at Starbucks and tried to pick up where we left off from the day before. This time I read the article about architecture out loud so she could hear me pronounce the words and she could practice. After each paragraph I would stop and ask her to summarize for me what the paragraph was about. She had some difficulty doing this so I was sure to walk her through it. It also gave me a chance to explain to her how beneficial outside reading can be. Many of the words she was getting hung up on she easily could have stumbled over earlier in a newspaper or magazine article. Also I thought it important because reading a wide range of material helps build schema for reading tests like the one we were doing. One article in TIME about architecture a month or two earlier would have made it much easier for her.
