For this session we resumed our normal meeting tradition and met at Starbucks. She told me she wanted to take the TOEFL in the next two weeks and I suggested we get as much practice as we can before then. I don't think she is capable to pass but I knew taking the test would be a positive experience and help her gauge her own needs. I also thought it might help push her to increase her practice habits. I think her life style was holding her back, especially in the speaking and listening skills. She lives with her family who speak Spanish, and then she works at a restaurant where everyone speaks Spanish and interaction with customers is rehearsed and basic. As a result she wasn't getting much meaningful interaction in English so I suggested she seek it else where as much as possible from things like books or TV shows in English.
