Valerie TS #7

I tutored PJ again during my seventh session. Before we began reading Holes, I wanted to get him loosened up since he'd just got home from reading camp. We played a couple games of hangman to start off, using words from the book ("warden," "shovel," etc.) in attempts for him to see it wasn't just another book he had to read.

He enjoyed the little break and seemed eager to get to reading the book once we were done. Sometimes he would skip over periods and create run-on sentences so I had to be the bad guy and ask him to slow down just a bit -- even I was getting lost! We only read two chapters, since I knew he wasn't fully focused on what he was reading. We took a good amount of time at the end of each chapter to recap what he'd just read.
