We met at Starbucks as usual and continued the TOEFL reading practice tests in her textbook. This time the passage was about animal ecosystems. Like last time I read the passage to her so she could both read and hear what the passage was about. I think this passage was much harder because many of the terms and topics required back ground knowledge in biology. This meant more time dedicated to explaining to her what each paragraph was talking about and explaining the topic. This was another opportunity to emphasize to her how helpful reading diverse materials can be to improving her English. Time magazine, the New York Times, and National Geographic where all suggestions that I thought would be perfect. Some of it would be outside her reading level but would serve well as an intensive reading practice.
