Saeed and I got together at Starbucks for the first time and introduced ourselves. (We're also conversation partners, so we did that as well.) I wanted to get a grasp on where he was, so I asked him his CIES levels and what he wanted out of our tutoring sessions. He told me that he really just wanted to focus on speaking since he had everything else down. I had him write me a sample paragraph so I could get a better idea of where he actually stood. As Ramadan had just started, I had him write it on that. From the writing sample, I was able to determine that while he certainly can get a coherent idea across, he struggles with some basic grammar concepts and needs to go back and study them more.
