Ismael CP#3 Fahd

6/8/17

For this conversation partner meeting I invited Fahd to my parents house in the suburbs of Tallahassee. It was Ramadan so Fahd insisted that I don't offer him food or anything to drink. He also asked if I wouldn't partake either because its hard on him to watch. We predominately talked about Ramadan and showed him around my parents house. He told me Ramadan is especially hard this far north because of the length of the summer days. He also told me the tradition is rooted in reminding Muslims of what it is like to be poor and have no food. I didn't know that before and found it interesting. My parents have traveled a great deal so the house is filled with all sorts of things from foreign cultures so that gave us a lot to talk about. We talked a lot about my family and where we come from and how we got to where we are today. Fahd was really attentive and enjoyed seeing some of the art we have from Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan. He said he was also excited to see the inside of a home of an American family and see how we live. He expressed interest in it so I agreed for our next session I would drive him around town and show him the different homes in Tallahassee.
