Well, after blowing me off for five weeks in a row, Turki finally got back to me. Unfortunately, as I found out after he showed up fifteen minutes late, he only wanted someone to do the project he had due the next day that he hadn't started. I cut a deal with him that if he wanted my help, he'd have to do both a full session of tutoring (definitely not his tutor) AND a conversation partner session. After finishing the tutoring session where he tried to get me to do his whole project, we moved on to introductory questions. He told me he's 18, has sisters, and loves video games. That's something we have in common, so I managed to drag him kicking and screaming through the conversation based on that. He really didn't seem to want to talk to me, but I managed to get him to talk about the differences in American culture vs. his. The biggest thing for him seemed to be that women can drive here, which we discussed a little bit more and had to chalk up to cultural differences.
