This session we met at Starbucks. This time she was able to bring her laptop and the CD from her TOEFL textbook. She said she mostly wanted help with the reading exercises. So together we took the practice test. First I read the passage to myself and then let her read it. Next we went to the questions. She would answer and I would explain if she was right or wrong. She had a lot of difficulty with this. The passage was about architecture both now and in the past. We spent and hour on one passage and 5 questions, only one of which she answered correctly. One of her problems was seeing the difference between when they are talking about the past, the present, or the future. I also showed her how I always check back to the text and use context clues around words to find their meaning.
