Alexandra TS #8

On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, from 11:55am to 12:55pm, I met with my adult tutee Natalia at the CIES.  Today we talked about people.  It was a very intellectual and deep conversation.  Natalia’s first observation was that people from all over the globe, no matter what their language, think and feel similar things; our only differences are cultural.  As a result we talked about people in different cities and how people react when they are sad or hurting.  In the U.S. people seem to hide their problems, but people in other countries show and even talk about their problems in public.  We talked about the Russian language.  Natalia said unlike English, Russian is phonetic.  The letters used are the letters said.  Russian seems similar to Italian in this regard.  Natalia also told me about the movie The Pianist.  This allowed us to talk about music and a bit of European history.  I loved our conversation because it felt like a real conversation, not just a tutoring session.
