Topic/Skill: Reading Comprehension
Feedback Provided to Tutee: This was my fourth time meeting with my child tutee, and PJ and I continued our reading of The Lightning Thief. In our previous session, PJ and I read through chapter 1. Before we started the next chapter I asked PJ questions about what we had read the week before. Most things he could remember on his own, but he did need a little help remembering the smaller, but still relevant, details. This time we read through chapter 2 and almost finished chapter 3.
Lesson(s) about Tutoring and/or the Tutee You Learned: In our previous lesson, PJ had expressed to me that he likes being able to see the words on the page while reading because it is more fun. Because PJ and I take turns reading, I brought in some copies of the chapter so he could hold the book while I looked at the copies. This helped PJ stay more focused. He still did have a little trouble focusing towards the end of our session because the beginning of the book is a little slow. As the book picks up the pace, I think PJ will really start to enjoy it.
