Feedback provided to tutee: She does a good job summarizing when she understands the background information but struggles a lot more if she doesn't already know about the topic.
Today, I also met with Dasom. We worked on finishing her reading and summary assignment from Monday. I had asked her to work on the assignment before we met today so that we could just review it, but she hadn't worked on it yet. It's hard to ask a tutee to do something ahead of the time an assignment is due because it seems like procrastinating is universal. She didn't want to work on it during finals, which I understand, so we finished it today. She struggled to understand some parts of the article that had to do with how the US handles certain situations. She doesn't know America's history with these kind of situations, so it was hard for her to understand what the authors were talking about at times. When I explained it to her in different words, she seemed to understand it though, and I asked her to write her summary in her own words. I can tell when she doesn't understand a part of the reading because she'll just pull words directly from the article instead of saying it in her own words. We were able to work through each section and finish the assignment though (at least the academic part). She still has to find a current event article and summarize that as well.
