My first question to Dojun was what’s up with the wedding
plans? He said that there were two big things that they had accomplished. The first, aside from reserving the wedding
hall, was planning for the meals. The
other was confirmation of the dress (for both him and his girlfriend), and
make-up (which apparently, they both wear).
They settled on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2:00 pm which is midnight here I
think. Dojun then begin to tell me about
the requirement they had to pay for 150 meals regardless of the number of
guests. This was interesting and gave me
some insight into the wedding planning requirements. He has spoken to whomever makes these
contracts and asked for a big discount.
Our discussion then focused around weddings as big businesses in S.
Korea. He explained that the venues in
which the weddings are held can be 4 floors and there is something happening on
each floor. For example, the 4th
floor may be where the ceremony is held while another wedding may be having its
reception on a lower floor. And if I understood correctly, the weddings
are held on the hour. So, they could be scheduled for 11:00, 12:00, 1:00 pm and
2:00 pm consecutively. As an aside, as
Dojun and I have had these conversations, I have become aware that he is using American
expressions. When I ask if the time is
2:00, he smiles and nods. If S. Korea
uses what we call military time, which would make it 1400 hours, Dojun has never
corrected me. The last thing we
discussed was the honeymoon. It appears
as if they are very close to settling on Maldives which is a beautiful
area. But as Dojun put it, now we have our
first big decision which is the date and time for the wedding. The honeymoon is next.
