Topic/Skill: Reading Comprehension
Feedback provided to tutee: Before I had PJ
read aloud from the novel we have been working on, we briefly went over what all
has happened in the story so far. I would ask PJ to summarize the main ideas
after every few pages and I continued to throw in a factual question to ensure
he was paying attention. I would read a few pages aloud to give PJ a break but
I asked him to come up with questions for me this time too. I couldn't help but
laugh when he said to me that that's not fair since I would know all the
answers. I had to remind him that I haven't read the book in many years so he
still has a chance to stump me~
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
I think it's important to switch things up every now and then. Even though PJ
and I have been working on reading comprehension each time, I want to try my
best to keep him motivated and engaged any way I can.
