Feedback provided to tutee: She understands the material, but she still needs to work on getting better at putting things in her own words and using the correct articles in different situations. Her comprehension is not the problem though. It has more to do with her writing and grammar.
Today, I had a second tutoring session with Dasom because she still needed help with one more assignment, and she will be leaving for New York tomorrow night at 11pm. We worked on a similar assignment to the last one. She had to write a summary of an article, but this time, the article was a current event article from the New York Times. The article was about safety speed cameras and placing them around schools. Dasom seemed to really understand this article a lot better than the academic one because it's something that she's familiar with. The only part that gave her trouble was the term "revenue-eat." I had never heard the term either, but it made sense in the context of the article. It was talking about how some people view those speed cameras as a trap to get more money, but the author argued that that isn't the case. She still has trouble with when to use which articles. She can figure it out by the second try if I tell her that something is wrong in the sentence, but she tends to make mistakes when it comes to using articles. Overall, we got a lot done, and I'm glad she was able to get her assignments done while she and I were both here to work on them.
