This discussion centered around some interesting work that
Dojun is doing with this company, Jeju Airline.
He spent a busy day with his team of 6 people preparing electronic
flight bags for the airline’s flight crews.
These bags are actually iPads that carry all of the system information
for the flights and are replacing paper manuals. He and his team have to
prepare 450 devices for 430 flight crews. When I asked about the process, Dojun
told me that his airline contracted with a company called “Jefferson” if I
understood correctly. This company is a subsidiary
of Boeing. He started talking about their IT group in the company and I
wondered why this group was not preparing the iPads because it seems
technical. I guess that it does not
require a lot of technical knowledge to register the iPads – just time. This process is a big event for the
company. Dojun reminded me that his
airline was a low-cost option and compared it to South West Airlines. He said that his company did its benchmarking
using SW as a model. The Marketing
Department is planning to add some perks through an intranet service which
gives passengers the opportunity to see movies, play games and so forth. We ended the conversation by saying that we
would talk again on Friday and I will hear more about the wedding.
