Feedback provided to tutee: She does a really great job when she doesn't just have to sit and read something by herself. It helps her to be able to talk about and ask questions about things as she goes through them.
I met with Soumaya the other day, and she was really tired this time. She said that Ramadan was really getting to her that day, but we were still able to get some work done. She had to learn some vocabulary words for her final exams, so I helped her work through those vocab words, and I quizzed her on all of the words she's supposed to know. She seemed to really appreciate the help, and I think she enjoyed learning the words from me because I tried to make it fun and relatable. I told her times when each word would be used, and I also gave physical examples when possible. One of the words was frown, so I did a sad frown and an angry frown. She thought it was hilarious to see me making faces instead of describing the words, so I'm glad it was at least a little fun for her. She doesn't seem too worried about her finals though. She wants to learn, and she has been working hard to get better. She just procrastinated, which was coincidentally one of her vocab words, learning the new vocabulary. We also went through her "beautiful mistakes" log, and I explained why each one was wrong and what the right way to use each phrase was. I think she really likes and appreciates working one on one to study English. She really appreciates the communicative uses of English, and that's her focus. She said that she hasn't really struggled too much with grammar though. Overall, it was a great session, and I'm glad that I was able to give her directly applicable help for her finals exams.
