On Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 7:00pm to
9:00pm, my conversation partner and I attended one of FSU’s outdoor Summer Band
Concerts at FSU’s amphitheater. It was a
very enjoyable and relaxing evening. This
event gave us a chance to talk about musical terms and popular American
music. We talked about the different
instruments we saw on stage. The band
played our national anthem. Gabriela
asked me to tell her the lyrics and explain their meaning. She was really interested in learning about
this piece. The band also played music
from The Pirates of the Caribbean,
and Gabriela recognized it. I enjoyed
seeing her connect with the music. It
reminded me that even if people speak different languages, the same music can
be a part of each of our lives. Gabriela
told me that she and her friends are going to travel during their summer break,
so I told her about places here in the Southeast that she could drive to like
Disney, Miami, or Atlanta. I really
loved getting to know Gabriela through this program. It was neat to introduce her to the U.S. and
learn about Brazil. This program has
inspired me to make more international friends.
