Feedback provided to tutee: We went over some vocabulary from the article and how it can be used in different situations.
I met with Dasom today, and this session was actually sparked on the way home from CIES. Because it was raining and we live in the same place, I offered to just drive her home and do the session at home. On the way back, the song "Despacito" came on, so I decided to talk about music for our session today. Since she wanted to work on her reading, I had her read an article and interview of the original writer of the song. As she was reading it, I was also reading it so that I could ask her questions throughout the article. I asked her questions about some of the colloquial language and what it meant. One of the terms was "flavor." The writer was talking about how it's nice to see Latin flavor in some mainstream songs. I had her explain to me in words what she thought each term meant so that she could practice her speaking and reading. She seemed to really enjoy today's session. I also showed her some popular songs and artists that were mentioned in the article that she didn't know. It was a really fun session since we got to practice the 2 things that she wanted to work on, and I got to introduce her to more pieces of American culture that she was unfamiliar with. Overall, it was a great session, and I'm excited for our next one on Friday.
