Christiana TS #16

Date/Time: June 14, 2017; 6:00-7:00pm
Location: Campus Circle Study Rooms
Topic: Speaking
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: Saeed learned about other cities to visit in the U.S while he is here.

Today I met Saeed at our usual study room at Campus Circle and we decided to work on speaking focusing on grammar in use and word choice. I wanted to make it a natural conversation and just make corrections as necessary and so we went that route. We started talking about our weeks, focusing on final exams and assignments that we respectively had finished and how he was excited to have a slight break in his studies during the last bit of Ramadan. We also started talking about what my plans were once my TEFL class was over and I had to correct him a few times while he was asking me questions about where I will go and why. We then talked about his future plans, looked into the schools he wanted to attend: University of Tennessee at Chattanooga  and University of South Dakota and he asked me about what I knew of these places. I then helped him compile a list of possible places to visit while here and helped him with pronunciation of these new places and we went over a few phrases that are commonly used while traveling. "How do i get to (blank)," "Where is (blank) located," "Where is the nearest(blank)," asking about money exchanges, cabs, etc. We chatted for a bit longer about interesting events coming up around Tallahassee this summer and then said our goodbyes. Saeed thanked me for the time I spent with him over this session and that made me feel great, having these tutees was something I was very nervous about at the start of this class but having each of them express gratitude and tell me that I had helped them was a truly rewarding experience.
