Date/Time: June 14, 2017; 3:00-4:00 P.M.
Location: Starbucks

Today Hui-Sin and I talked about wrapping up her session at CIES. She is sad to have reached the end of the session. She told me she is going to miss a lot of her new friends, but she is excited to go to Disney before heading back to Taiwan. She does have finals this week, but the tests are mostly for those who are staying at CIES for another session. The tests indicate if the students can move forward to another level. Hui-Sin is mostly excited about going back to Taiwan and being able to talk with foreigners. Before, she told me she always just cut the conversations short and did not interact with foreigners much. Now she feels much more confident in her English skills.

We also talked about more food. The two of us just really like food. We browsed a blog run by a foreigner who frequents Taiwan. Hui-Sin told me all about stinky bean curds, pigs blood rice cakes, and Taiwanese hot pots. I will admit, the rice cakes and stinky bean curd did not seem very appealing. Even Hui-Sin said she did not particularly love those foods, but she did not hate them either. Hot pots are a popular dish in Taiwan and consist of two soups. One soup is super spicy and the other is a more milk based soup, which means it is less spicy. It is buffet style, so all the food is a blanketed price, and you can order as much as you want with the hot pot. Hui-Sin highly recommended the hot pot.

I am sad to see the end of my conversation sessions. Hui-Sin has been a wonderful partner, and I hope she does really well in Taiwan with her new English skills. She has improved a lot, so I am confident she will be very helpful to foreigners.
