Raleigh CP #5

Date/Time: 6/12/17 (3pm)
Location: CIES
Topic discussed: St. George Island and finals
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: He's improved in his speaking and listening since we first started. He also learned what a "boogie board" is, and we learned how school calendars are in different countries.

Today, I met with Tingwei, and we talked about his trip to St. George Island on Friday. He said that he was expecting a lot more people to go because only 5 students actually went. He said that they just played on a boogie board for like 3 or 4 hours and then headed back to CIES. They took a van there, and they also ate at a seafood restaurant while they were there. He said the menu had too many items, so he doesn't even know what he got. I thought that was kind of funny. He was just laughing about the trip, and we also talked about how he feels about his final exams. He said that he's already taken 2 of them, but he wasn't happy with his speaking exam. He said that he takes too long to come up with his responses because he's trying to translate in his head before answering. I complimented his speaking after that because he seemed to be getting down on himself, but he thought I was lying. I was just telling him that I've noticed a lot of improvement since we first met because he corrects himself as he speaks now. He used to always say "he" no matter who he was talking about, but now, he catches himself doing it and will correct it if he should be saying "she." I'm really glad we got to meet one more time before he finishes his finals, and we're going to meet again on Friday for the CIES celebration.
