Topic/Skill: Reading Comprehension

Teacher Presentation: The class was given a level-challenging text which they previously went over as a class multiple times. The text came with a vocabulary list of words utilized within the text. The objective for this class period was to re-read the text and answer the questions at the end of the handout. The students could work on their own or in small groups when answering the questions. The questions of the text were to check reading comprehension.

Classroom Management: The desks were arranged in a typical classroom format. The instructor observed the students as they read and encouraged them to work together if the questions were too difficult to answer on one's own. Overall, the classroom was quiet so the students could concentrate.

Materials: Reading text handout, vocabulary handout, questions handout

Student Participation: The students began the assignments individually and gradually started to work in pairs or groups when the questions became more challenging. Surprisingly, I didn't notice too many students asking questions. Most of the students worked to answer the questions without the teacher's help.

Feedback Provided: Not much feedback was provided within this class period because the class time was used to read and answer question. My suspicion is that in the next class period the instructor would go over the questions in the class, focusing on the vocabulary in context and the main ideas of the text.

Lesson(s) on Teaching You Learned: In this class, I learned that it is okay to let students work in groups. When the students worked together they were able to answer the questions and exchange knowledge with their fellow classmates. I learned that it was okay if the students weren't able to answer everything on their own because the assignment was meant to be challenging.
