CP#1 with Fahd Alajmi
So for our first Conversation Partner meeting I met Fahd at the Black Dog cafe at Lake Ella. Fahd was kind enough to buy my coffee so I guess I owe him one. We discussed his time here in Tallahassee like what his plans are, what he plans to study, and what he likes/wants to do in Tallahassee. We also talked about our families and Fahd showed me pictures of his fathers falcons which was honestly pretty amazing. We talked about some things in america like the various police departments we have, his expectations and then disappointments in moving to the capital of Florida, and how he came to be here. Later Soultan a friend of Fahd and a student I had met at CIES earlier in the day called and invited us over to his apartment. So Fahd drove us there. Once at Soultan's apartment I met close to a dozen other Arabic speakers at CIES and one Brazilian. We all played FIFA and listened to music which was super hilarious. I helped Fahd decipher some rap lyrics and some of his friends played some Arabic music that they danced to briefly. Soultan was also an excellent host constantly pouring us all coffee and tea. He also cooked for the entire group. All in all is was a really fun experience that I look forward to doing again. In the future I'd like to return the favor and invite all of them to my place for a traditional american meal (minus the pork). Soultan said his hospitality was just his duty as a host and a part of his culture so I'd like to show them some good southern hospitality in exchange.
