CO #1 Victoria Davis group 4A
So this morning I observed the 4A grammar class taught by Victoria Davis. Today's class focused on the past perfect continuous verb tense and they also reviewed what they had discussed the previous class and what they would do during the next class. Victoria Davis was the living embodiment of the idea of the teacher as a "coach" as apposed to the "sage" model. She was extremely encouraging to her students whom all appeared to feel very comfortable in her class. Everyone was engaged with the lesson and participated. She also followed some of the teaching methods taught in our book and what was discussed in class. She didn't directly correct the students but instead helped them to understand and fix their mistakes. She also used a variety of teaching methods. She utilized the board to write and draw things to help the students, asked them to come up with their own examples, and also worked through some worksheets from a book with them. I would HIGHLY! recommend sitting in on her class. She successfully created a class room culture that motivated and inspired the class to improve and learn, and gave me excellent advice. I plan to observe her class a few more times throughout the TEFL course because I feel there is a lot I can learn from her.
