Date/Time: 13 May / 1:00 - 3:00PM
Location: Lake Ella
Topic discussed: Interests, relationships and
dating culture, pets/animals
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner
learned: I picked up Jiwon from her apartment and headed to Lake
Ella to have some coffee at Black Dog Café. We also walked by the lake and
checked out some of the shops, including Quarter Moon Imports. I am pleasantly
surprised by how easy it is to talk with Jiwon . We conversed about various
topics but I guess what stuck out to me most was when she told me about her
boyfriend. She explained to me about how Korean couples go by every 100 days of
being together and that their "300 days" would be next week. We also
had a good laugh talking about our different dating experiences and the
different social norms in our respective countries. I could tell that she
really enjoyed taking pictures of the ducks by the lake. She said that it was
cool to be able to get so close since many of the lakes in Korea are fenced
off. She told me that wild rabbits are especially common where she's from and that
they’re used to people so you can sometimes even pet them. Many people brought
their dogs out to the park as well so I told her about my pup and we ended up
sharing pictures of pets -many of her friends dress up their smaller dogs and
it was hilarious to see some of the outfits. We plan to get some drinks at a
local bar the next time we meet up :)
