Date/Time: May 10, 2017 - 3:00 p.m
Location: CIES
Topic/Skill: Needs Assessment
Feedback Provided to Tutee: After completing the Needs Assessment part of our meeting, Seongeun and I went over a homework assignment she was given. It was a composition assignment that allowed me to see what areas of grammar she was having the most trouble with. I helped guide her to fix her beautiful mistakes by telling her what kinds of errors she was making (eg. article errors, verb tense errors, etc.).
Lesson(s) about Tutoring and/or the Tutee You Learned: I think the most important thing I learned is that I need to make sure I am constantly reviewing grammar topics so that I can better help Seongeun in our tutoring sessions. I learned that Seongeun's goal is to achieve better communication by improving her speaking and listening skills. She also wants to expand her daily vocabulary.
After seeing some of the common mistakes Seongeun was making, I want to bring her different kinds of activities to help her improve in these areas. I also want to make sure that I am teaching her grammar in context. I'm a little bit excited for our next meeting because I hope to be well prepared. Although I don't mind helping Seongeun with her homework assignments, I would rather spend our tutoring sessions learning and going over the skills she needs to complete and check her own work.
