Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: America culture vs. Saudi Arabia, learning languages
Abdulrahman is really nice! He's from Saudi Arabia and all of his family is there. He is also in Law and wants to get his masters in America. He is learning English so that he can continue his education and communicate with his future clients who speak English. All of his brothers and sisters speak English very well. One of his sisters teaches English. Abdulrahman has some difficulty understanding English, but he is uncomfortable speaking it. I encouraged him to speak to his sister in English instead of Arabic when he talks to her to practice even though speaking Arabic would be easier. He just wants to talk about anything in order to practice speaking. We spent time chatting about cultural differences between America and Saudi Arabia. He likes the freedom of being in America and that there are less restrictions. We talked about what kind of music and movies we like and since we both like Indian food, we're going to eat next time we meet up. Like with Salim, I'm going to look up some law vocabulary to help him learn work related words for our next meeting.
