Alexa CO #2
Today I got to observe a 1A listening classroom. It was interesting because I felt like it was a little more challenging than a beginner level class. The first thing that the class did was start off with the word of the day which was the word 'nosey.' The teacher explained what the word meant and gave examples. Afterwards, they had an assessment. This is the part that I thought was a little challenging. The assessment included matching words to their definitions and doing short answer questions (the students only had to write the word answers, not sentences). During this time I also got to look at the textbook which was really easy to follow and was printed in a simple format. There was a lot of different cultures embedded into the textbook. After the assessments, the teacher introduced the students to the word 'practice.' The students had to again match words to their definitions and each person had the opportunity to read one of the sentence/answer combinations. The last thing that was done in the class was that the teacher introduced them to the word 'symbol.' He then read a sentence out loud, and the students had to rewrite the sentence using symbols which were provided in the textbook. I thought the last activity was really beneficial for the students to learn because in American culture, there are a lot of symbols and abbreviations for words (@, &, etc). It was a very interesting class, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to observe it.
