Annalise TS #1
I'm tutoring Jane for the next six weeks. I started by asking her a few questions like how long she's been learning english and what she wants to gain from the TEFL certificate just to name a couple. I had previously asked her what she wanted to focus on in these tutoring sessions and she had told me that she wanted to focus on reading (vocabulary) and writing. Since she wanted to focus on these two subjects, I gave her a short quiz on the two subjects to see what she was struggling with. After going over all her answers, I had her pick words she had trouble with while reading so I could explain them more in depth. It was interesting to tutor someone in English because I had to think about my answers more than I thought I would have to. I figured out how important it was to be prepared and speak in a way that she could understand me. Jane is definitely an upper level English learner and got few answers wrong. I think from here we'll focus on specifics and practice rather than teaching material like I thought we would.
